OVERVIEW / MISSION
The Climate Registry’s mission statement is: “The Climate Registry is a nonprofit collaboration among North American states, provinces, territories and Native Sovereign Nations that sets consistent and transparent standards to calculate, verify and publicly report greenhouse gas emissions into a single registry. The Registry supports both voluntary and mandatory reporting programs and provides comprehensive, accurate data to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
North American geographical entities involved in the Climate Registry extend from Canada’s Northwest Territories to the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. Members cover 29 sectors, such as building and materials, media, solid waste and recycling, healthcare, and professional services. As of September 9, 2011, The Climate Registry claimed 428 total members, of which dozens are considered founding members.
