As Leaders Summit on Climate Opens, Biden-Harris Administration Sets Tone with New Initiatives

The 51st Earth Day celebration took place on April 22, midweek of the wider Climate Week observations in the United States and many other lands. This year’s U.S. government participation is very different from 2020 and other recent years.
Stepping into office in January 2021, U.S. President Joseph Biden took action to return the U.S. to the Paris Agreement and promised full-on participation in the climate change “Conference of Parties” or COP meetings. The next one convenes in Glasgow, Scotland, in November 2021.
On January 27, President Biden signed a sweeping Executive Order (#14008) – “Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home” – making new policies, actions, and goal-setting a hallmark of the Biden-Harris “Climate Crisis Administration.” hey described it as a “Whole of Government” approach to climate actions and solutions.
